Road to Valik

Hi
I'm stuck at the beginning of the road to Valik. I'm trying to enter Nabros Castle
I've read the post "Help for a new player" where it says "You have to sneak up to the north and then cross the smokey hills".
As soon as I enter the road to Valik I'm FRIED! - END OF GAME!
Do I have to get my hit points really high to stop this or am I going the wrong way?

Solved
I went too far.
As soon as you get to the barren mountains you turn left and go west along the edge of them (on the north side of the trees).
